ANNFSU to lock out TU, OCE from today

Kathmandu, December 26:

The All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) is all set to lock out Tribhuvan University and Office of controller of Examination (OCE) from tomorrow for an indefinite period. The students’ body claims that the lock-out will continue till their demands are met by the government.

Balgopal Upadhayaya ANNFSU leader said the students would announce further protest programmes on December 29 if the government does not fulfill their demands by December 28.

The educationists today demanded the immediate appointment of vice-chancellors and other key officials of the four Universities. Dr Kamal Krishna Joshi, chairman of the University Grants Commission, addressing a public hearing programme organised by the All Nepal National Free Students Union said that the prime minister and education minister should take responsibility for delay in the appointment of VC and other key officials.

Madhav Sharma, former rector of TU, said that PM Girija Prasad Koirala is “eating his own words” by politicizing the education sector. He had earlier said that the education sector should be free from politics.

Professor Dr Narendra Maharjan and Ramakant Sapkota, advisor to Education Minister, said that the government is not paying much attention towards appointment of vice-chancellors in various universities. As part of the protest programme, students organised a one-hour chakka jam in front of all the Valley campuses.
