Anti-crime success: 5 held

KATHMANDU: A special squad deployed by Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD), Hanumandhoka, yesterday apprehended five persons for their alleged involvement in robbery.

The five had allegedly robbed Rs 900,000 and valuables worth over s 100,000 from Popular Enterprises owned by Arjun Kharel in Mahabouddha on November 1. They robbed Kharel of two sets of mobile phone, a golden bracelet and necklace. They carried out the loot after holding Kharel and his assistant Arjun Lamichhane at gunpoint.

The arrested are Ranajeet Lama hailing from Kharepangu- 9 of Kavre, Prithivi Bilash Chaulagain and Hom Bahadur Thapa Magar of Tokarpur-7 Ramechhap, Somraj Basnet aka Shisit from Bhimeshwor Municipality- 13 Dolakha and Hom Bahadur Magar from Budhakhani-5 Kavre. While, another accused Khir Bahadur Thapa Magar aka Ganesh of Tokarpur-7 of Ramechhap is at large.

The special squad led by DSP Prakash Jung Karki, MPCD had arrested them from several locations in the Valley. Along with Rs 353,500, the necklace and other looted valuables, police also seized a toy pistol, a sword and a citizenship certificate of Hom Bahadur Thapa from those arrested. The Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s Office made public the recovered cash, valuables and weapons amidst a press meet.

Police Commissioner AIGP Kalyan Kumar Timsina said the police were more successful in curbing crimes in the urban centers due to Special Security Plan that came into effect in September.

“The police-public partnership is another turning point in anti-crime drive. We hope to get continuous support from public in future too,” he said.
