KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 3

All Nepal Women's Association has handed over a memo to the prime minister and the minister of home affairs demanding action against former parliamentarian Ram Kumari Jhakri for her immoral comments against President Bidhya Devi Bhandari.

A team led by the Association's Chair Sita Poudel handed over the memo to PM KP Sharma Oli at the latter's official residence in Baluwatar and pressed for action against Jhakri who, according to the Association, had resorted to character assassination of President Bhandari.

Jhakri, had recently broached the 'White Sari' issue, saying it was wrong to present Bhandari in a white sari during polls, at a recent public event. The Association said the comment had dishonoured all the single women across the country.

The association's Secretary Sujita Shakya said that the team also handed over a memo to Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa at his office in Singha Durbar today itself. The visiting team urged immediate arrest of those making snide public comments against the head of state.

Minister Thapa pledged to ask the chief of Nepal Police to take Jhakri into custody.

The Association also drew the attention of the concerned authorities to the snide statements made against lawyers pleading with the constitutional Bench on the dissolution of the House of Representatives on behalf of the government.
