Applications invited for scholarship scheme

Kathmandu, December 20

Department of Information has re-invited applications for scholarship from students of journalism aspiring to enrol in bachelor’s level.

A notice in this regard has been re-published as few applications were received under different categories when the announcement was made 21 days ago, according to DoI.

The scholarship will be provided on a merit basis to those who have passed their higher secondary (10+2) level or bachelor’s level first year students pursuing journalism course under seven different quotas, namely women, ethnic groups, Madhesi, Muslim, person with disability, Dalit and privileged group.

Prabin Katuwal, section officer at DoI, said Madhesi, Muslim, ethnic group and people with disability quotas had yet to be fulfilled and that applications from women, privileged group and Dalits had already been closed.

“This is the first time that Department of Information has launched a scholarship programme and it will be given continuity.

Due to lack of information about the programme, there have been some delay in receiving applications,” he said.

Katuwal said an awardee of the scholarship would be provided with Rs 25,000 for his or her education.

The DoI has so far received three applications under the women’s category and one each under the Dalit and privileged group categories. “The deadline for submission of applications have been extended by seven days till December 26, 2017,” he said.
