Araniko Highway blocked for hours after driver’s arrest
Kathmandu September 23:
Demanding the release of a driver and helper arrested five days ago, the Araniko Yatayat unit of All Nepal Transport Workers Association (ANTWA) disrupted the traffic on the Araniko Highway for four-and-a-half hours this morning.
President of ANTWA Sangam Limbu said they were forced to stall the traffic because the police took action against innocent transport workers instead of catching the businessmen who evaded tax at Barhabise customs. The jam that begun at 5 am today was lifted only at 9:30 am after the police released driver Dinesh KC and helper Bijay Upreti. Limbu said the police either could not find the guilty or did not want to catch them and always made the innocents suffer. Police had seized a vehicle and arrested the duo accusing them of evading tax at Barhabise custom office. The businessmen who had brought the clothes had fled.
