Attack on Customs’ official condemned

KATHMANDU: Nepal Civil Service Employees’ Union (NCSEU) today expressed serious concern about the incident of manhandling and smearing soot on Kewal Prasad Khatiwada, chief, Birgunj Customs Office. Cadres of CPN-Maoist, a splinter group of UCPN- Maoist led by Matrika Yadav, had ill-treated Katiwada at his office alleging that he let the smugglers off the hook on Monday.

Issuing a press statement, NCSEU said, “Some miscreants aligned to the Yadav-led Maoist party have deliberately made an attempt to daunt the morale of a civil service employee in pursuant to his duty. We strongly condemn the intolerable act and urge the government to book the guilty immediately.”

The Working Committee of Finance Department under the Ministry of Finance also called on all the employees to refrain from routine jobs for an hour beginning 10 am on Wednesday to protest the same.

NCSEU warned that it would resort to fresh stir if the government fails to take action against those involved in the incident.

Issuing a press statement, Federation of Nepal Customs Agent has also expressed its solidarity to the protest.
