Attacks on cadres condemned

Nepali Congress has condemned the recent attacks by CPN-UML activists on its party cadres in Bajura and Dhading.

A press release issued today by NC chief secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel stated, “The incident has openly breached the citizens’ fundamental rights to participate in and organise election publicity campaigns in a peaceful manner and also has made the mockery of democratic culture.”

In an armed attack by a group of some 40 UML activists in Budhiganga Municipality-1 on Thursday, NC local cadres, including Krishna Bahadur Thapa, Amma Thapa, Lalit Thapa, Gopal Thapa, Gore Sanai and Lal Nepali, were injured and the whereabouts of three other party cadres, Dambar Thapa, Ramesh Nepali and Kisan Nepali are still unknown, it

said. The injured are receiving treatment at District Health Office, Bajura.

UML cadres had looted a mobile phone, diary and some cash from injured Krishna Bahadur Thapa and injured ward chair Rajesh Bahadur Singh in the attack, it stated. Likewise, a group of nine UML cadres had attacked NC cadre Santosh Bastakoshi in Dhuwankot Rural Municipality of Dhading at 6.00am today, stated the party.
