Avalanches continue in Annapurna South

MYAGDI: Avalanches have continued in Mt Annapurna South at Narchyang VDC of Myagdi district in western Nepal for a month.

Debris has made the local Ghalemdi Khola, which originates from the mountain, turbid, and the water level in Kaligandaki River downstream has increased, according to according to Tej Gurung, who is the chairman of local committee of Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) in Narchyang.

A wooden bridge, constructed by the Ghalemdi Hydropower Project, over Ghalemdi Khola was also swept away by the floods.

According to ACAP officials, preparations to send a joint team from ACAP and Ghalemdi Hydropower Project to the Annapurna South's to take stock of the avalanches failed due to bad weather.
