Awareness meet on disaster mgmt

Local representatives, social workers, health workers, earthquake experts and officials of the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) today attended an orientation programme organised to create awareness among the public on disaster management. Speaking at the programme, Dharma Raj Pan-dey, director, Department of Natural Disaster Management at NRCS shed light on the disaster management. Earthquake expert and engineer Bijay Pandey, from National Society for Earthquake Technology, said, "If an earthquake like that of 1990 occurs, Kathmandu will lose around 40,000 human lives and injure 95,000 people. Over 60 per cent of the infrastructure will be destroyed rendering over 700,000 people homeless."
