KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 12
The Babarmahal area of Kathmandu was waterlogged after a major water supply pipe on the main road burst open.
The incident occurred while the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) was conducting horizontal drilling to install underground power supply cables.
Tika Bahadur Chaudhary, Head of the Kathmandu Valley Water Supply Project Implementation Directorate, told RSS that a critical pipeline in the main water supply system ruptured during the drilling process for underground electricity cable installation.
Although the water distribution valve was shut off following the incident, water has continued to flow, he said.
The pipe burst caused severe waterlogging, submerging the Special Court in Babarmahal, nearby government buildings, and several vehicles parked on the premises.
Traffic along the affected section was also disrupted, leading to a severe congestion.
