Bank guard robbed of Rs 8.55 lakh
Kathmandu, April 20:
Three unidentified persons looted Rs 8.55 lakh from a security guard of the Sinamangal branch of the Bank of Kathmandu this morning.
Police said two persons were having tea near the Sinamangal branch when two staffers of the branch came from the BoK’s Kamaladi-based central office with a briefcase containing Rs 8.55 lakh. “The staffers handed over the briefcase to the security guard as they had to open the office,” Hariram Basnet, an eyewitness, said. “In the nick of time, the two persons attacked security guard Dambar Bahadur Raut with khukuris, snatched the briefcase and fled the scene,” he added. According to him, a boy started his motorcycle as soon as the two snatched the briefcase and they fled the scene.
Raut suffered injuries on his head, back and hands and is undergoing treatment. Police interrogated bank staffers Sunita Thapa and Dipa KC and freed them in the evening. Inspector at Metropolitan Police Sector, Gaushala, Ganga Panta, said police were yet to identify the culprits, adding that a probe is underway.
