KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 6
Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck visited two of Kathmandu's iconic World Heritage Sites, Swoyambhunath and Boudhhanath, during his brief unofficial visit to Nepal today.
The monarch arrived in Kathmandu this morning from India and is scheduled to return to Bhutan later today, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
King Jigme Khesar began his visit by paying homage at Swoyambhunath. He was warmly received by the office-bearers of the Swoyambhu Management and Preservation Committee. The king spent approximately half an hour at the site, offering prayers and admiring the panoramic view of the Kathmandu Valley from the hilltop stupa.
Following this, the Bhutanese monarch proceeded to Boudhhanath, another sacred Buddhist site, where he also paid his respects and offered prayers.
Both sites hold significant spiritual and cultural importance and are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, attracting pilgrims and tourists from around the world.
