KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 27

Bhutanese refugee leader Teknath Rijal was released on bail on Wednesday following the court verdict in a case related to a fake Bhutanese refugee scam.

He had been detained for seven months during the trial, and the High Court Patan ordered his release on a bail amount of Rs 1.5 million. However, due to a delay in depositing the bail amount, his detention at Sundhara Jail was extended, as reported by Rijal's aide, Bishwonath Chhetri.

Upon his release, Rijal expressed gratitude to all parties that assisted him during the litigation process. Although he had deposited the bail amount on Sunday, administrative delays caused by public holidays affected the timely release. The court had issued the verdict for his release a month ago.

Now, Rijal is required to appear before the Kathmandu District Court on January 5.

In the same case, former home minister Balkrishna Khand was released on a bail amount of Rs 3 million at court, and Rs 1.5 million at the Department of Anti-Money Laundering.

Others released include Sandip Rayamajhi, Narendra KC, Hari Bhakta Maharjan, Shamser Miyan, and Ramsharan KC. However, former secretary Tek Narayan Pande, former deputy prime minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Indrajeet Rai, and others remain in detention.
