Kathmandu, July 21

Bir Hospital is preparing to procure modern medical equipment to upgrade its services.

Vice-Chancellor of National Academy of Medical Sciences Dr Ganesh Gurung said Bir Hospital was the oldest hospital of the country and needed modern equipment to treat patients.

He informed that the hospital plans to procure tomotherapy machine at the cost of Rs 400 million, Intra operative CT Scan machine worth Rs 200 million and neuroendoscopy machine used in neurosurgery worth Rs 30 million. The procurement process has already begun, added Gurung.

Similarly, the hospital is also planning to purchase neuro-navigation system with stereotatic frame, endoscopic ultrasound machine, machines to be used in genetic lab, machines for indo-urology, among other things.

Every day, nearly 2,000 to 2,500 patients from across the country visit the hospital for treatment. They require different kinds of services depending on their illness. So advanced medical equipment and technology will help the hospital provide better services to the patients, said Gurung, adding, “The flow of patients in the hospital has been on rise these days and it has become a challenge for us to deliver quality services  to them.”
