Bolivian national held with 3 kg cocaine from TIA
KATHMANDU: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of Nepal Police arrested a Bolivian national with three kilograms cocaine from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, on Tuesday.
Herrera Arteaga Olga, 41, of Bolivia, an alleged suspect associated with a transnational drug racket, was taken into custody from TIA this morning, police said.
A sleuth deployed from NCB intercepted Olga at the arrival terminal of TIA, frisked her baggage and then seized a huge cache of illegal drugs hidden inside a suitcase. And subsequently, police took her under the control.
The consignment of cocaine is said to be worth around Rs 150 million in the international drug market. Police said Olga, who arrived in Nepal on a Fly Dubai flight, intended to smuggle the drug to India.
The Bolivian citizen will be charged under the Narcotic Drugs (Control) Act 1976. It convicted, she can be liable to life imprisonment.
Cocaine is often known as 'rich person's drug' and Nepal is not often considered its market due to its high price. It is a strong stimulant mostly used as a recreational drug.
Meanwhile, police are further investigating the case.
