Book on statutory issues launched
Kathmandu, December 23
Federal Nepal: Trials and Tribulations written by Advocate Dipendra Jhawas launched here today.
Member of National Human Rights Commission Mohna Ansari; columnists CK Lal and Ujjwal Prasain; and journalist Subina Shrestha jointedly launched the 272 page book published by Aakar Books, New Delhi.
The book has 16 chapters that mainly deal with Nepal’s constitutional issues, constitution making process and Madhesi protests against some of the ‘discriminatory provisions’ of the constitution.
Jha has states in his book that constitution needed to be amended to address the genuine grievances of Madhesi, Janajati, women and other marginalised communities. He has said their concerns were ignored by the largest political parties.
The author has said that although the Constitution of Nepal was framed by almost 90 per cent of the Constituent Assembly members, they were not free to voice their opinions as whips were issued by their respective parties telling them not to speak against the official line of the parties.
