Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, has highlighted the role of telecommunications services in the nation's prosperity.

Inaugurating the fifth central convention of the National Employees Organisation of Nepal (NEON), Nepal Telecom, on Thursday, the Minister emphasized that holistic development cannot be imagined in the absence of telecommunications services.

The nation's development gains momentum with citizens having wider access to telecommunications, Minister Sharma reiterated. As the Government spokesperson, she asserted that Nepal Telecom is responsible for connecting citizens in remote areas to quality services. She urged the NT management to introduce and implement a special scheme aimed at minimizing the 'digital divide'.

According to her, the time has come to bridge the 'digital divide', and she pledged to support NT's efforts to expand services extensively. Drawing attention to the NT management, she urged further measures to strengthen the quality of service, making it more competitive and professional. She also requested the Company to devise a scheme to promote the organization commercially.

The Minister also advised NT employees to fully utilize their skills and experiences in service delivery, focusing on promoting their professional rights and institutional development.

During the program, representatives of trade unions within NT drew management's attention to the urgency of addressing sectoral challenges, implementing new projects, and enhancing facilities.
