Bus committees to halt transport service protesting DoTM decision

Kathmandu, April 3

Bus service committees of Bhaktapur and Kavre yesterday halted transportation service protesting against the decision of Department of Transportation Management to give the Banepa-Chakrapath route permit to Mayur Yatayat Private Limited.

They have also threatened to halt bus service tomorrow.

Bus service committees halted their bus service for the entire day but the impact was hardly felt by the public due to the easy transportation service provided by the new bus service provider Mayur Yatayat.

Tulsiram Aryal, director at Department of Transport Management said that no one had the right to obstruct vehicular movement on the road. Anyone found violating Consumers Protection Act would be punished as per the law. Aryal informed that Department of Transport Management had recently implemented Company Act on March 30, according to which new transportation companies could get route permit after registering the company with DoTM.

Earlier, vehicles used to get route permit after registering with the respective bus service committee, but now vehicles have to be registered as a company then only Department of Transportation Management gives permit for the route. “We haven’t given route permit to Mayur Yatayat illegally, the route permit was given as per the laws.”

There are 113 private limited companies registered with the Department of Transport Management and the office will not give route permit to any committee or individual after implementation of the Company Act.
