Sparks clash between policemen, students; bus torched

Kathmandu, April 1:

Putalisadak area remained tense this afternoon as protesters clashed with police over the death of a person in a road mishap near the Shaker Dev Campus. Brasen Shrestha, 20 of Palpa, was killed on the spot when a bus of the Nepal Yatayat hit the motorcycle Shrestha was riding on at Putalisadak at around 11 am.

Locals, including students of the Shanker Dev Campus and Ratna Rajyalaxmi Campus, blocked traffic and clashed with police after the death of the youth.

Demanding compensation to the victim’s family and action against the guilty driver, students torched a bus belonging to the Nepal Yatayat, vandalised two vehicles, blocked traffic and clashed with police.

Protesters and police pelted stones and bricks at each other. Police fired tear gas shells to disperse the mob. Police have seized the driver of the bus and motorcycle of the dead.

MA exam disrupted

Kathmandu: The MA first year examination of Economics in the Shankher Dev Campus could not be held on Sunday due to unrest at Putalisadak triggered by the death of a 20-year-old man after he was run over by a bus.

The exam was scheduled to start from 12 noon, but it could not be held due to the unrest outside the exam centre. The Office of the Controller of Examination said the exam would be held after other exams are over on April 24. — HNS
