Six defendants face Rs 135.7 million each in Nalinchok Project irregularities

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 3

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) Director General Pradeep Adhikari and former CAAN Director Murari Bhandari on corruption charges, presenting them before the Special Court with a charge sheet naming six defendants.

The two arrested were reportedly arrested on Wednesday and brought to the Special Court in Babarmahal in connection with irregularities uncovered in the construction of a helipad in Nalinchok, Bhaktapur.

The CIAA has filed a corruption case against six individuals in the Special Court. According to Krishna Sharan Lamichhane, spokesperson for the Special Court, each defendant faces claims amounting to NPR 135.7 million related to alleged irregularities in the Nalinchok helipad construction project.

Both Adhikari and Bhandari remain in custody at the Special Court facility in Babarmahal.

CAAN serves as the primary regulatory body for Nepal's civil aviation industry, responsible for licensing, safety oversight, and infrastructure development including airports and helipads across the country.
