Families to receive cash assistance and temporary housing support for three months

KATHMANDU, MAY 20

The government has decided to provide relief and rehabilitation support to families displaced during the removal of vulnerable settlements along riverbanks in the Kathmandu Valley.

A Cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday decided to provide a lump-sum rehabilitation grant of Rs 25,000 to each affected family, government spokesperson and Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel said after the meeting.

According to the decision, a family of up to five members will receive Rs 15,000 per month for temporary accommodation for three months, while families with more than five members will get an additional Rs 2,000 per member.

The Cabinet also decided to keep elderly people, persons with disabilities and helpless individuals in designated holding centres and to ensure continuity of children's education and health services in coordination with local governments.

The meeting approved a grant assistance of 6.116 million Swiss francs from the Swiss government for a municipal revenue enhancement project and 79.36 million RMB grant support from the Chinese government for maintenance and upgrading of the Araniko Highway.

The Cabinet also endorsed the Accreditation Regulations, 2083 and the Military Service (Sixth Amendment) Regulations, 2083.

Likewise, the government decided to allow the bill to amend the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2058 to be tabled in the Federal Parliament.

The meeting also approved the alignment and placement of Gazetted Special Class Secretaries in line with the Government of Nepal (Work Division) Regulations, 2083 BS.
