Govt to construct 50 collective shelters in earthquake-hit districts
KATHMANDU: A Cabinet meeting held today decided that the government would build a total of 50 temporary collective shelters for the earthquake victims in the earthquake-affected districts.
The Cabinet meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Singha Darbar, decided to build the temporary shelters in 14 districts severely affected by the devastating April 25 earthquake and its powerful May 12 aftershock.
About 9,000 people were killed in the earthquake and as many as 900,000 houses were destroyed.
According to the Nepal Disaster Risk Reduction Portal, 604, 930 buildings -- government and private -- were fully damaged while 288,856 buildings were partially damaged.
In Sindhupalchok, most severely quake-affected district, about 64,595 buildings were fully damaged while 2,788 houses were partially damaged.
