Cabinet meeting being held to decide on guvs
KATHMANDU: A Cabinet meeting is being held to take a decision whether to arrange appointment of governors or to name provincial temporary headquarters (PTHs).
The government is consulting political parties to arrive at a decision on governors and PTHs in the meeting being held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) in Singha Durbar, Kathmandu, according to PM's Press Coordinator Govinda Pariyar.
Appointment of governors is crucial for holding the National Assembly election. An electoral college comprising chiefs and deputy chiefs of local units and 550 members of provincial assemblies will elect the National Assembly members. However, provincial assembly members are yet to be sworn in as governors have not yet been appointed.
According to the constitution, the Election Commission has to submit the final results of provincial assembly elections to governors who will administer the oath of office and secrecy to provincial assembly members.
National Assembly election is slated for February 7.
