Call to boost Nepali folk culture
Kathmandu, September 8:
Cultural experts today said Nepal needs to generate its individual identity in the international arena despite being a culturally rich country.
International influence has overshadowed the originality of the Nepali folk culture, said the experts at an interaction on “Position of Nepali culture abroad” organised by the Nepali office of Kosheli Cultural Fusion -UK.
Poet Durga Lal Shrestha said very few people living abroad know about our culture. “Our neighbours India and China are culturally renowned all over the world, but there is nothing typical about us, known abroad.”
“Foreigners are getting wrong impression about Nepali culture by limiting it to mere replica of India and the west,” said Uddhav KC, president of the KCF. Folk singer Kumar Basnet said western musical instruments are dominant in Nepali folk songs.
