Call to listen to prisoners

Kathmandu, July 23:

Terming most of the demands made by prisoners across the country “logical”, legal practitioners today urged the government to meet the demands.

However, the practitioners differed over whether the government should grant amnesty to all prisoners in view of the changed context.

Speaking at an interaction, a constitutional law expert, Bhimarjun Acharya, said, “The prisoners’ stance that they should be freed at a time when the old statute has been scrapped is illogical.” However, Mahadev Yadav, a former attorney general, said, “All prisoners should be freed so that they can mend their ways.”

Advocate Khem Narayan Dhungana said some of the demands are illogical.
