Call to stir for statute’s fate

KATHMANDU: Unified CPN-Maoist secretary Posta Bahadur Bogati 'Diwakar' today said the US and India were planning to push the Maoists back within a month or two.

"Now the fate of the new constitution, federalism and lasting peace will be determined by the movement," Bogati said while releasing the "Tifadi Awaj", a bi-monthly publication of the party's Ramechhap-Kathmandu coordination committee here. He said various national and foreign forces were trying in vain to single out and defeat the Maoists. Bogati said the NC and UML would be washed away along with other feudal forces by the wave of the upcoming third peoples' movement since they favoured status quo.

He also said his party had asked neutral forces to join their cause, threatening them to face the consequences after the success of the 'third people's movement'.

'Tifadi' stands for Tirtha Bahadur Gautam, Fatta Bahadur Islami Magar and Dil Maya Tamang, who were killed during their first ever attack on a police post at Bethan of Ramechhap on January 3, 1996. The party claims to have begun the publication to educate people on political and ideological developments.

One of the fighters in the attack, Bibek Sharma, said that the trio had died in a matter of minutes.
