Canadian held for defrauding Nepali students

KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Crime Division has recently nabbed a 55-year-old Canadian citizen of Indian origin on the charge of swindling Nepali students of more than Rs 5.3 million, leaving them stranded abroad.

The suspect has been identified as Velengattucherry Jameskutty (Passport number GK112661) and was arrested from Narasingh Chok of Thamel, KMC-29.

The swindler had defrauded as many as 12 students assuring them of language training with study and job opportunities in foreign countries, police said,

The suspect swindled students from the Visa and Immigration Service Pvt Ltd in Old Bus Park.

Police arrested the man after a complaint was filed against him by the consultancy operator and victims. the MCD said in a statement today.

He has been sent to the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range for further investigation and action.
