One held with arms

KATHMANDU: The police on Sunday night raided a house at Gothatar of Kathmandu Metropolitan City and arrested a person with a homemade handgun and two bullets meant for 9 mm pistol. The arrested has been identified as Diwas Rai, who is also owns the house. Inspector Dilip Giri, Metropolitan Police Circle, New Baneshwor, said the police had launched an investigation to ascertain his link in criminal activities that took place elsewhere in the Kathmandu Valley in the recent past. Meanwhile, Kathmandu District Court on Monday remanded him to seven-day police custody under Arms and Ammunition Act.

Proctors face action

KATHMANDU: A joint-secretary-led monitoring team from the Ministry of Education took action against three invigilators in Morang district on Monday on the fourth day of the ongoing School Leaving Certificate examination. According to Chitra Prasad Devkota, controller, Office of the Controller of Examinations, they were taken action against for violating the rules of the examination. In Parsa district, nine students were expelled while three were ousted from the exam programme on Sunday. The top official did not disclose the names of the students since they could disrupt the examination programme. Twenty ‘fake examinees’ were taken action against in Saptari on Sunday.
