Sujata thanks all

Kathmandu: Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala on Wednesday expressed gratitude to all those who took part in the funeral procession of the late Girija Prasad Koirala. Koirala passed away on March 20. “We are overwhelmed at the demise of the leader of the Nepali democratic movement, while the enormous presence of people in the funeral procession consoled us,” Sujata Koirala, said in a press statement.

NC condolence meet

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress on Wednesday said it will hold a condolence meeting in Kathmandu valley on March 3 and in other 72 districts out of the valley on March 1 to mourn the demise of Girija Prasad Koirala. The valley’s condolence meeting will be held at Khulla Munch at 11:30. The party said a programme will also be held at Bankali, Pashupati, where the ‘prasad’ will be distributed on March 1, the 13th day of Koirala’s death.

Bid to rape minor

KATHMANDU: The police on Tuesday arrested one Gajendra Mandal of Saptari district, for making an attempt to rape a minor. According to the police, Mandal had taken a nine-year-old girl to his rented room at Mandikhatar, Mahankal, and tried to sexually abuse her. The locals seized him after the girl cried for help from inside the room, police said.

Two held with arms

KATHMANDU: A special squad deployed by the Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgung arrested two persons along with a revolver at Bashundhara on Tuesday night. Those detained are Rajesh Lama and Ghanashyam Rana Magar of Nawalparasi district. According to the police, the duo pleaded guilty of extorting people at gunpoint for a long time. They have been put under Arms and Ammunition Act.

Forger arrested

KATHMANDU: The police on Wednesday arrested Roshan Prasain of Kapan, Kathmandu, who posed himself as a self-proclaimed police Inspector and duped the employees of Tirupati Hotel. He was arrested by a squad of Metropolitan Police Sector, Kamalpokhari. According to the police, Prasain admitted that he posed himself as a Police Inspector under the influence of alcohol. He has been handed over to Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka for further investigation.
