EU expresses grief
Kathmandu: The heads of the mission of the European Union, Norway and Switzerland, on Monday expressed their deep sorrow on the demise of Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala. Koirala was the first and foremost democrat, who made a major contribution to the establishment and deepening of democracy in Nepal. The press statement further said, “Koirala was the main architect of the peace process which ended the decade-long insurgency in the country. With his political experience and wisdom, he succeeded in bringing all parties to talks and ultimately realised the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.” Likewise, a press release of Embassy of Bangladesh in Nepal stated that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed condolence over the death of Koirala. She was deeply shocked and grieved at the demise of Koirala. Hasina said that he was a great leader and a champion of democracy.
Academy condolence
KATHMANDU: Academy for Ganesh Man Singh Studies on Monday expressed condolence at the demise of Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala. “Koirala offered his whole life for Nepal, Nepalis and democracy. His demise will inflict an irreparable damage to the country,” said a statement issued by Nabindra Raj Joshi, chairman of the Academy. “We are confident that the political parties will honestly move ahead on Koirala’s path of unity, consensus and cooperation,” the Academy said. The Academy also wished eternal peace for Koirala’s departed soul.
