Rape victim moves SC

KATHMANDU: Police constable Suntali Dhami today filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court seeking an order to the government to prosecute all those accused in raping her. Dhami, a rape victim, filed the petition demanding its order to the government authorities to prosecute rape accused Biradutta Badu, Dan Singh Bhandari and Naribhan Mahatara. The trio has been accused of raping on her on September 27 in Achham. Stating that they were set free by the District Government Lawyers Office, Achham, she sought the apex court's intervention. The petitioner has sought the apex court's mandamus order to the Prime Minister's Office and the Cabinet, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Women Children and Social Welfare, Ministry of Law and Justice, Police Headquarters, the District Police Office and the District Government Lawyers Office, Achham.

Police post reinstated

KATHMANDU: The government on Saturday reinstated the Kachanari-based police outpost in Siraha. Citing security reasons, the unit had been moved during the Maoist insurgency. According to Nepal Police, the reinstated outpost under the District Police Office, Siraha, has a strength of 20 personnel under the command of ASI Dev Narayan Mahato.

Hooch destroyed

KATHMANDU: The police on Saturday raided a couple of homespun breweries at Dhungedhara, Nayabasthi, and impounded some 200 litres of tainted liquor. The police squad also seized materials used for brewing and distributing the liquor. The liquor was destroyed later. Police maintained that they have intensified crackdown on hooch recently.
