Dalit body’s demand
KATHMANDU: National Dalit Liberation Front affiliated to the UCPN-Maoist on Monday demanded the government to guarantee special rights for dalits, women and Muslim community in all state mechanisms. Organising a press conference, the Front demanded that 'practice of untouchability' should be declared a social crime and those practising it should be punished. It has also announced a two-hour chakkajam and mass meetings for December 4. "In Kathmandu, we will organise chakkajam and mass meetings at Bagbazaar, Bhotahity, Kalanki and Koteswor," said Tilak Pariyar, convener of the Front.
Chinese army visit
KATHMANDU: A Chinese military delegation led by Shu Yu Tai is arriving here for a three-day official visit on December 4. Lieutenant general Tai is the commander of the Chinese Army in the Tibetan Autonomous Region. The delegate is scheduled to meet Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala, Defence Minister Bidhya Bhandari and CoAs Chhatra Man Singh Gurung. The delegation will also visit Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha.
Scribes S Korea bound
KATHMADU: A team of three journalists led by Bishnu Nisthuri, president Asia Journalist Association (AJA) Nepal chapter left for South Korea to participate in the fifth general assembly of AJA, on Monday. The assembly is scheduled from December 1-5. AJA Nepal in a press statement said the Nepali team would be presenting a paper on 'Nepali Press and Freedom of Expression'. Other members of the team are Hemanta Kafle and Narayan Amrit, read the statement.
NC condemns YCL
KATHMANDU: The NC condemned the attacks of YCL on six workers of Nepal Students Union in Rolpa on Sunday. NC chief secretary Ram Chandra Pokhrel on Monday in a statement said that NSU district chairman Sher Bahadur Thapa and activists Yogendra Rokka, Chom Bahadur Budhathoki, Manis Bista, Dhanamaya Dangi, among others, were injured in the attack.
