Chabahil victims' kin call bandh

KATHMANDU: Demanding compensation to the victims' family, kin of Chabahil tragedy have announced that they would call bandh in and around Chabahil on Saturday.

Talking to The Himalayan Times, Ram Kumar Rai, a member of joint struggle committee said, "We are forced take on bandh as a last resort to put pressure on transport entrepreneurs and the authorities." He informed that a bandh would be enforced from 7 am to 5 pm in Chabahil area tomorrow. They have a plan of valley bandh on Sunday if their demands were not fulfilled by then.

Meanwhile, talks held today between the bus entrepreneurs and victims' kin turned inconclusive as both parties remained adamant to their stance. The victims' kin have demanded that the bus operator provide them a relief of Rs 1 million each and bear treatment costs of the injured. While, the bus operators maintain that the victims would get relief under the government prescribed third party insurance system.

Three pedestrians were killed when a bus belonging to Swoyambhu Yatayat ran over them at Chabahil Chowk on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Dhaniram Choudhary and Nagendra Choudhary, both hailing from Rampurawa- 9 of Bara District and Rama Rai from Khotang. Gopi Shrestha of Kavre had sustained injuries in his legs and back. Agitators had burnt three buses to ashes after the accident.
