Chandragiri emerging as a major tourist destination

Kathmandu, June 23

Chandragiri has become a famous tourist destination within 11 months of operation of cable car service. One can have a panoramic view of Kathmandu Valley and the surrounding mountains from the Chandragiri hilltop.

The view tower, the playground for children and Bhaleshwor Temple are the major attractions of the site, which is around 11 minutes’ cable car ride from Thankot. The Chandragiri hill  also bears historic importance as King Prithvi Narayan Shah, standing atop, first thought of conquering the Valley, then Malla kingdoms.

Goodwill ambassador of Chandragiri Hills Madan Krishna Shrestha, said, “Many mountains can be seen from Chandragiri that could be a major tourist hub for not only the people from Kathmandu Valley but also for those who come from different parts of the country.

Other goodwill ambassadors Haribansha Acharya, Deepakraj Giri and Deepashree Niroula were of the view that Chadragiri could be developed into a model tourist destination, considering its peaceful surroundings.

Chairman of Chandragiri Hill, Chandra Dhakal, said although it took them five long years to get permission for operation of cable car services at the Chandragiri Hills, they completed the construction within two years.

Dhakal said more than half a million tourists visited Chandragiri within  the last 11 months and the company paid Rs 60 million revenue to the government.
