CROs entrusted with holding DCC elections

The Election Commission today entrusted chief returning officers with holding election of district coordination committees in Province 1, 5 and 7, where the local level polls were held on June 28.

A meeting of the EC office bearers held at its central office took a decision to this effect.

Local level elections were held in 461 local levels of 35 districts in the aforementioned provinces in the second phase.

According to EC Spokesperson Surya Pasad Sharma, the poll panel had directed chief returning officers to hold the election of DCCs in 33 districts. He said the EC would decide later about the election of district coordination committees in Rukum and Nawalparasi, which were split during state restructuring.

Earlier also, the election body had entrusted chief returning officers with holding election of district coordination committees in the districts where first phase of local level polls were held on May 14.

The main opposition CPN-UML had demanded that confusion regarding the formation of DCCsbe resolved in the districts where local level polls were held in the first and second phases.
