Chiefs kept off campus for month
MADYAPUR: Students have prevented Chief Jagat Krishna Pokharel and assistant Chiefs Birendra Kumar Burma and Padma Krishna Joshi of Sanothimi Campus from entering the institution since last month.
Talking to The Himalayan Times today, Birendra Basnet, president, Free Students' Union, Sanothimi Campus, said it was a part of their third phase of protest. "Our demand is to transform the campus into a multiple one, since the only faculty it runs -- Education -- has failed to attract a considerable number of students.
The campus should not be shut down due to the lack of students," he clarified. "Our move is inevitable since the campus authorities did not bother to consider the case."
The college has around 3,000 students at present. The number in the past was as high as 4,200.
The students have declared to bar the officials from stepping in the campus until the filfilment of their demands.
They are launching additional programmes of protest to pressurise the university once the winter holidays are over.
