China congratulates Deuba, Koirala for election

KATHMANDU: Chinese ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai called on newly elected Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba at the latter’s residence in Budhanilakantha in the Capital today and congratulated him for the election.

Chuntai also wished Deuba a successful term as the NC President on behalf of the Communist Party of China and the Government of China.

He also expressed his belief that relations between China and Nepal would be strengthened further during the tenure of Deuba as NC President, said chairman of the Press Union Nepal, Badri Sigdel.

In response, Deuba said that he would do his best in consolidating Nepal-China relations further in the days to come, adding that Nepal always stood as a good friend of China.

The leader said he would give a high importance to ties with China.

He also expressed hope that China would help in the development of Nepal.

Likewise, Chuntai expressed his hope that the West Seti Hydropower Project and the construction of Humla-Simikot-Hilsa Road would be prioritised during the upcoming visit of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to China.

Meets Koirala also

Meanwhile, Chuntai also met the party's new General Secretary Shashanka Koirala also at the latter's residence in Maharajgunj to congratulate him for the election.

During the meeting, they discussed contemporary political issues of the nation.

On the occasion, Koirala expressed determination that he would take the party ahead uniting it, it is learned.
