Chure Bhawar against single Madhes state

KATHMANDU: Chure Bhawar National Unity Party (CBNUP) Nepal on Saturday said that the party’s supporters were ready to carry arms rather than supporting the ‘One Madhes,

One Pradesh’ demand raised by some Madhes-based parties.

Speaking at a press conference organised by the party to inform about the party’s upcoming general convention, party president Keshav Prasad Mainali said the ‘One Madhes,

One Pradesh’ demand was a ploy to split the country into small weaker states.

“Some external forces are provoking a handful of people to split the country, challenging

the rights and identity of indigenous nationalities

in Tarai. There is no place called Madhes. Such demands are only aimed at disintegrating the country,” he added.

Mainali also made it clear that they would not let any one to split the nation, even if it demanded carrying arms.

He also informed that the party would organise its first convention in Hariban in Sarlahi from Monday. The three-day conclave will be participated by representatives of 36 districts, he added. “The convention would discuss on the party’s plans and policies, ways to deal with the demand for a single Madhes State and the distribution of citizenship certificates to more than 24 lakh people without any investigation.

Mainali also claimed that CA members of five political parties — CBNUP, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Samajbadi Prajatantrik Janata Party, Prajatantrik Samajbadi Party and Nepa Party — had proposed him to join the cabinet.

“We don’t want ministries. We just want to put our agendas in the cabinet,” Mainali noted. He also said his party would protest bandhs organised by any party or group in the Chure Bhawar area.
