CIAA appoints spokesman

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Tuesday named Joint Secretary Krishna Hari Puskar as its spokesperson and Under Secretary Khagendra Prasad Rijal as assistant spokesperson.

Cops hurt in attack

KATHMANDU: Two police personnel of the Metropolitan Police Circle, Kandaghari, were injured after an inebriated man attacked them with a broken window glass and knife on Tuesday. Akash Basnet, 26, of Kageshwori Manahara had thrown the broken window glass at the cops and attacked them with the knife. The police personnel had taken Basnet under control from his home after he thrashed his wife in a drunken rage.

Smugglers arrested

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested two persons in possession of 9.3 kg hashish while they were trying to smuggle the contraband into Canada via Tribhuvan International Airport.

Sukdev Yadav, 45, of Bairawa, Saptari and Min Bhujel, 34, of Bateshwor, Dhanusha, were nabbed on Monday while they were trying to smuggle the hashish into Canada through a courier service by concealing the drugs in decorative items.

Human trafficker held

KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police nabbed a man who was allegedly involved in trafficking many women to Gulf countries and Syria. SP Shyam Lal Gyawali informed that a CIB team had launched an all-out effort to nab Shovakant Bhattarai aka SK, 38, of Urampokhara, Parbat, after the law enforcement agency received complaints about his nexus with human trafficking network in various countries. He was held from his rented house in Chabahil yesterday. Recently, he sent three women to Syria via Delhi-Dubai with a promise of lucrative job and left them to fend for themselves in foreign land. According to CIB, Bhattarai, in cahoots with foreign agents, had so far lured at least 30 women into going to Kuwait, 15 to Dubai, and three to Syria.
