CIAA urged to probe Birat Petroleum controversy
KATHMANDU: The All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), the student wing of CPN-UML, has drawn the attention of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) towards the agreement inked between Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) and Birat Petroleum Private Limited.
A team led by ANNFSU Chairperson Nabina Lama met the spokesperson of CIAA, Krishna Hari Pushkar, and urged for the prompt investigation into the case and action against those involved in misappropriation of the fund and fuel in NOC.
ANNFSU has lodged a case against the agreement, according to which, the Birat Petroleum has been selling around 300,000 litres of petrol daily in an inflated rate, more than Rs 30 per litre than the regular price.
The union has also demanded with the CIAA to instruct the Birat Petroleum to deposit around Rs 40.5 million in the state coffers that was earned from the sale of petrol in five days.
In response, CIAA spokesperson Pushkar pledged a prompt investigation into the case and action against those who fleece the consumers, according to ANNFSU's Vice-Chairperson Mahesh Bartaula.
The union is also going to launch a market monitoring in an attempt to curb the black marketing of fuel.
