CIB arrests British national on charge of paedophilia

Kathmandu, January 20

The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police arrested a 50-year-old British national on the charge of paedophilia and rescued three minors from his clutches yesterday.

Superintendent of Police Uma Prasad Chaturvedi said plainclothes cops raided a rented apartment in Kalimati, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-13 at around 4:00am and apprehended Iain Robert Cole (passport number 511123659) of the United Kingdom, Sophiea Street 24, Germany, in the act of molesting underage Nepali boys.

Kathmandu District Court has remanded the British national to seven-day judicial custody for further investigation. The latest raid was led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Kabit Katuwal.

The British national lured poor and disadvantaged children with money and goods and brought them to his apartment and preyed on them.

DSP Katuwal said he had last arrived in Kathmandu on December 28. It was his 16th visit to Nepal since 2010. One of his fellow citizens, who accompanied Cole, had left Kathmandu for home last week.

CIB has also arrested two Nepalis for assisting and instigating the British national to commit the offence in a covert manner. DSP Katuwal informed that Cole was arrested for possessing child pornography in the UK in 2016 before release.
