Citizens should have easy access to information, says PM
KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said citizens of Nepal should have an easy access to information.
In a message given to mark completion of a decade of implementation of the Right to Information legislation in the country, PM Dahal stressed providing easy access to information on issues of public importance in line with the Right to Information Act.
The Prime Minister stated in the message that the celebration of the National Information Day on anniversary of introduction of the legislation would be meaningful only when the government and all the public bodies express commitment and carry out works towards respecting the citizens' right to information, providing information to the citizen seeking information within the stipulated time frame as mentioned in the laws, keeping separate records of the information demand and disclosure, classifying the information, protecting the informant and giving a sense of good governance to the general public by means of information flow.
"I want to draw the attention of all - the government offices, political parties, NGOs, private sector and all the statutory bodies - to the need of fulfilling the responsibility determined by the Right to Information law," the Prime Minister said.
