City dwellers mark 100 days of Tarai unrest

KATHMANDU: With the completion of 100 days of Tarai unrest, denizens of Kathmandu have taken out a rally to protest the ongoing demonstrations and to request the government to come to a resolution, on Monday.

The rally was organised by Twitter users through the social networking site with the hashtag #100daysofsuffering requesting the people to gather in Basantapur to voice the uneasiness people are suffering through because of the protests staged by the United Democratic Madhesi Front and the subsequent unofficial border blockade.

Scores of people gathered in Basantapur as scheduled at 6: 30 am and marched, with placards and banners to protest the unrest, towards Tripureshwor-Thapathali-Maitighar and concluded the rally in New Baneshwor.

The rally raised voices against the numerous rounds of fruitless dialogues held between the government and the Madhesi parties. They have urged both the parties to forge a consensus quickly to ease the blockade being imposed at Birgunj Indo-Nepal border point.
