Committee formed to safeguard Madhesis’ rights

Kathmandu, February 18:

The UML-affiliated Democratic Madhesi Organisation (DMO) announced the formation of its ad hoc committee today.

Members of the committee said they will work to safeguard the rights of the politically and socially marginalised Madhesis.

The committee has Raghuveer Mahaseth as its president, Mahendra Rai Yadav as vice-president, Jeetendra Dev as general secretary, Dr Bansidhar Mishra as secretary and Ranju Thakur as treasurer.

Addressing a press meet, UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said the DMO was formed to give voice to the concerns of the Madhesis. “The organisation is ideologically close to the CPN-UML.

Nepal said that the DMO will work to safeguard the rights of the Madhesis.

The formation of a federal democratic Nepal, introduction of a proportionate electoral system and communal proportionate representation for the reconstruction of the state are agendas of the DMO.

The DMO said it will launch a movement if the recommendations of the Rayamajhi commission report are not implemented by March 14.
