Conference on water, environment and climate change in the offing
Kathmandu, April 8
Delegates of 20 countries are meeting in Kathmandu to discuss water, environment and climate change issues from April 10 to April 12.
Scientists, activists and water conservationists will discuss 116 research papers presented at the programme ‘International Conference on Water, Environment and Climate Change, Knowledge Sharing and Partnership.’
The programme is being organised by the Ministry of Water Supply, Department of Water Supply and Sewage, Society of Public Health Engineers Nepal and Nepal Engineers Association.
Organising a press meet today, Chair of NEA Hareram Shrestha said, “Nepal is one of the top 10 countries that are hit hard by climate change. Immediate actions have to be taken to address the issue.” Stressing the need to preserve water he said people would have to face dire consequences if water sources were not preserved.
Speakers at the event also said snow in the Himalayan ranges were melting rapidly due to global warming.
