Conman who promised youth with job at spy agency held

KATHMANDU: A man who swindled a youth of Rs 65,000 with a false promise of helping him get a job at the National Investigation Department has been arrested on charge of fraud.

Metropolitan Police Crime Division identified the suspect as 40-year-old Ajit Basnet, a permanent of Chabahil, Kathmandu.

Basnet allegedly took Rs 65,000 from the victim, 20-year-old Milan Pandey of Gulmi, with an assurance of his recruitment as an Assistant Sub-Inspector at the government's spy agency.

Basnet told Pandey he needed to bribe top officials of National Investigation Department to get the job.

The suspect has been sent to the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu for further investigation and action, the MPCD said.
