Consensus to end stalemate in 2 days, assure ruling parties
KATHMANDU: Leaders of two major ruling parties - Nepali Congress and CPN Maoist Centre - on Tuesday said they would forge a consensus with the main opposition CPN-UML and other political forces to end the current political stalemate within two days.
In a meeting with the Federal Alliance at the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar this afternoon, the parties assured the disgruntled alliance that they would expedite political parleys for the same.

According to the Maoist leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha, who was present in the meeting, the parties decided to hold discussions with the main opposition on all contemporary political issues including removing obstructions at the Parliament, the Constitution amendment proposal and preparations for local polls in a bid to forge the consensus.
Addressing the meeting, the Prime Minister had sought support from the agitating Madhes-centric and pro-identity parties under the FA to support the Constitution amendment bill that the government registered, according to the PM's Secretariat.
He revealed that the government was planning to announce dates for local polls in the meantime.
In response, the Madhesi leaders said the polls should be announced only after the endorsement of the bill.
They also assured that their bloc would be flexible in finding a solution to the current problems.
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel, General Secretary Shashanka Koirala, leaders Bimalendra Nidhi, Krishna Prasad Sitaula and Prakash Man Singh were present in the meeting of ruling parties with the Federal Alliance.
Dahal was accompanied by leaders Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Ram Bahadur Thapa from his party.
Likewise, the FA was represented by Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav, Sadbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato and Tarai Madhes Democratic Party Chairman Mahantha Thakur.
