Consensus on gov modality agreed

KATHMANDU: Constituent Assembly (CA) members of the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) Wednesday held an informal meeting to forge a consensus on key issues raised by the CA Committee to Determine the Structure of Governance of State.

At an informal meeting held Wednesday at the parliamentary party office of the UML, leaders of the three key allies of the coalition government agreed that a consensus should be forged among the parties to finalise the report of the committee to be presented at the full meeting of the CA.

Unified CPN-Maoist, the largest party in the CA, has already said that chief ministers of the provinces should be elected only from the concerned community under which the province has been named. However, the NC and the UML are against the UCPN-M’s proposal of giving priority on caste basis. Leaders Pradip Giri, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, Pushpa Bhusal, Bishnu Poudel and Krishna Prasad Sapkota were among those present.
