Constitutional Council recommends names for Chief Justice

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Constitutional Council held on Monday forwarded names of two senior justices who were recommended earlier by the Judicial Council for the post of chief justice.

Deepak Raj Joshee and Cholendra Shamsher JBR have been recommended for chief justice, said Chairperson of the National Assembly, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina. Both Joshee and Shamsher have previously completed three years of their stint at the Supreme Court.

Sitting Chief Justice Om Prakash Mishra will make an exit on January 2 after reaching the legally mandated retirement age of 65 years.

The Constitutional Council acting on a provision which requires it to recommend names for new chief justice a month in advance forwarded names to Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) under Federal Parliament for endorsement.
