Construction work at Tinkune park expedited
Kathmandu, May 21
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has expedited construction work at Tinkune park. After distributing compensation for land acquisition to the locals, the KMC had begun levelling the land in the park area about a month ago.
“After we complete constructing the boundary wall, three roads will be constructed to reach the mid-point of the park where a national flag will be placed. The park will have an island-like structure at the centre,” Spokesperson of KMC Gyanendra Karki told The Himalayan Times, “The project will be completed within a month.” The KMC said the project is estimated to cost approximately Rs 5 million. The KMC had formed a local committee before beginning the project.
The KMC is reportedly planning to plant Bermuda grass and build walking tracks in the park. The project had been initiated after the appointment of Eshor Raj Poudel as the new KMC chief.
Earlier, former KMC chief Rudra Singh Tamang had proposed to build a park in the area with a huge statue of Gautama Buddha in the middle. KMC Chief Poudel had also proposed to buy 10 road broomers to clean Kathmandu’s dusty roads. As per the plan, KMC will deploy staffers in three shifts from 7:00am to 10:00pm to clean the roads. Meanwhile, the KMC said the process of importing road broomers and tree plantation machines was halted due to the local level elections.
“Though a team was all set to go to India to purchase road broomers and tree planting machines, all process has been halted due to the local level elections,” Spokesperson Karki added, “We hope the task will speed up after elected body begins its work at KMC.”
